Section 58 protection
Protects newly resurfaced streets. Any permit that intersects a live Section 58 restriction is flagged as Blocking and placed in an alert queue.
The problem
Resurfacing is expensive, and a new road is undermined if it is opened again weeks later. Restrictions are recorded in Street Manager, but checking each permit against them is manual.
What it does
- Checks each permit’s geometry against the live Section 58 register, not just the street reference, so partial-length restrictions are handled correctly.
- Places breaches in an S58 alert queue with a dismiss-with-note workflow and audit trail.
- Shows restriction corridors on the map and the works programme.
- Shows the works category on every alert, so immediate and emergency works, which the legislation allows, are easy to tell apart.
- Pre-submission check for promoters: enter a street and dates, see any restriction before applying.
How the numbers are worked out
Every figure HighwayIQ shows can be traced back to Street Manager permit references. The full definitions are published.
